Ex-paramedic to hold special Father’s Day charity event in Cornwall
Family fun, diggers, sea shanties and a serious message about men’s health
A former paramedic living with prostate cancer is holding a special Father’s Day event in Cornwall this summer – and it’s shaping up to be a day the whole family can enjoy.
Mark your calendar: Sunday 15th June
Dave Pascoe, one of the directors at Lanjeth Water Gardens and Nursery, will host the event on Sunday 15th June from 10am–8pm, with a day of activities, performances and vehicle displays planned across the site’s 13.5-acre grounds.
The event is free to attend, with visitors encouraged to make charitable donations on the day. All money raised will go to The Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health – a local charity supporting men with prostate cancer across the South West.
“A simple blood test really could save your life”
Dave said:
“I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2024, so I want to raise awareness of this disease and raise funds for local men’s cancer charity The Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health. Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK, so I hope this awareness day will save lives.
“Thanks to fantastic local cancer services, despite my prostate cancer diagnosis I’ve been given a curative prognosis within the next three years. I feel compelled to give something back.
“Through this family day, I’m aiming to raise funds to support the people and services that helped me. I’ll also be raising awareness, making sure that as many men as possible know the importance of getting tested. I’m proof that a simple blood test really could save your life.”
What to expect on the day
The event promises a wide range of family-friendly attractions, including:
-
Vehicle displays with diggers, dumper trucks, emergency vehicles and antique carriages
-
Nature walks through ancient and wet woodland
-
Wheelbarrow racing
-
Sea shanty singing
-
Performances from a Cornish choir and folk group
-
Cafe, BBQ and bar refreshments served throughout the day
