St. Francis Dogs Home Enhances Facilities for Four-Legged Friends

St. Francis Dogs Home is reaching out to the local community to gather materials for an exciting project aimed at improving the well-being of dogs in their care. Ruth, the dedicated behaviourist at the shelter, is leading the charge to develop a sensory garden and enhance the existing fields to create a stimulating environment for the dogs.

Generous Donation Kickstarts Project

The project has already seen support from local businesses, with Mikie from CoG Cycle Repair & Design, Penryn, Falmouth generously donating tyres to kickstart the development. These tyres will be used to add interesting features to the fields that are frequently used for assessing new dogs, conducting training exercises, and facilitating meetings between dogs and their potential adopters.

Call for Donations and Volunteers

St. Francis Dogs Home is now seeking additional donations of specific items to further their project. They are looking to upcycle and recycle materials to not only benefit the dogs but also promote environmental sustainability. Among the items requested are:

  • Tyres (any type)
  • Wooden pallets (intact)
  • Giant wooden spools
  • Tunnels and pipes
  • Downpipes and guttering (intact)
  • Durable plastic outdoor toys for kids, such as paddling pools or climbing frames
  • Gym crash mats
  • Astro turf
  • Chicken wire or plastic fencing
  • Wooden picnic tables, benches, and chairs

Residents who have any of these items to donate can leave them by the blue door at the shelter.

Community Collaboration Opportunities

In addition to physical donations, Ruth is eager to collaborate with local community groups. She is calling on youth clubs and adult community groups to consider crafting items like activity blankets, wooden activity boards, and agility jumps for the shelter. Businesses interested in supporting the initiative can sponsor or donate outdoor seating such as picnic benches, which will greatly benefit both the dogs and visiting adopters.

Volunteers Needed

Once the necessary materials are collected, the shelter will need volunteers to help set up the sensory garden. This provides a great opportunity for community members to get involved and make a direct impact on the lives of dogs waiting for their forever homes.

Engage and Contribute

For those interested in contributing to the project or volunteering, please reach out directly to St. Francis Dogs Home. They welcome all ideas and are eager to discuss any queries regarding the garden and the materials needed.

This project not only supports the physical and mental health of dogs but also strengthens community ties by providing a platform for collaboration and support. Your contributions can make a significant difference in the lives of many dogs.
