Students from Falmouth and Exeter have pulled together this November to support Movember, raising a combined £5,590 for the global charity that focuses on men’s mental health and research into prostate and testicular cancer.

CSM Men’s Hockey Lead the Way

CSM Men’s Hockey raised the highest amount with £3,078 collected by nineteen students. They grew out their moustaches, took part in fun runs around Falmouth and completed their own challenges. Together they covered an impressive 800km.

CSM Men’s Rugby Add Another Big Boost

CSM Men’s Rugby brought in a further £2,472. Thirty members got involved, starting the month with a talk on why the campaign matters to the club before committing to the full Movember moustache. Weekly pub quizzes helped build donations and the team marked fundraising milestones with group runs, from climbing Jacob’s Ladder in Falmouth to longer routes around nearby fields.

“We raised for Movember because we believe in the message behind it,” said Thomas Hayes, CSM Men’s Rugby Charity Officer. “Our aim was to raise awareness and show support so that if any of the boys in or out the club feel like they need to talk they won’t hesitate to reach out.”

Cornwall Med Soc Join the Effort

Cornwall Med Soc added £40 to the total by organising a 5km run to raise awareness and support for the charity.

Students’ Union Praises the Campaign

Speaking about this year’s Movember activities, Angela Novell, the Students’ Union CEO, highlighted how valuable it is to see students leading on meaningful campaigns.

“This demonstrates the incredible power of our societies who have not only raised vital funds for men’s health and wellbeing but have also raised awareness. We are incredibly proud of their efforts.”

The Students’ Union says it is proud to see student-led efforts like this taking place and encourages societies to get involved in campaigns that bring people together and highlight important issues. Movember is one example of how students unite to make a positive impact, support one another and champion meaningful causes across campus.
