The Cinnamon Trust Appeals for Forever Homes for Large Breed Dogs
Could You Be the One to Give a Gentle Giant a Home?
A Cornwall based charity is appealing to dog lovers across Cornwall and the South West who may be able to offer a forever home to larger dog breeds in need of care and companionship.
The Cinnamon Trust, which supports older people and those with terminal illness with the care of their pets, says finding homes for bigger dogs can be more challenging, despite strong interest in fostering smaller breeds.
Appeal for experienced dog lovers
The charity is currently looking for confident fosterers who have experience with large dogs and the space needed to care for them properly. Among the dogs in its care are German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Labradors and Boxers.
Charlotte, the Trust’s Forever Fostering Co ordinator, said:
“As part of our promise to provide lifelong care, many of the pets entrusted to us eventually need a new, loving home.”
She added:
“Larger breeds can be more challenging to place because they require more room to stretch, bigger gardens to explore, and confident, caring people to give them the attention they deserve.”
Charlotte also highlighted the bond created through fostering, saying:
“Every pet we match with a new home has a story. Our forever fosterers continue giving pets the love their owners used to, and receive unconditional love in return.”
Kizzie’s new beginning
One dog who has already found a new home through the Trust is Kizzie. After her owner became terminally ill, Kizzie was taken into the charity’s care and later matched with her forever fosterers, John and Janet.
John said:
“Kizzie came to us shortly after her eighth birthday. She’s a darling dog loved not only by us but by everyone who meets her. We’ve had wonderful support from The Trust’s Welfare Team, no question is ever too small or too much trouble. We wouldn’t let her go for the world!”
What forever fostering involves
The charity is looking for people who:
-
Have experience with larger breeds and enjoy an active lifestyle
-
Have enough space at home and in their garden for a big dog
-
Can manage an enthusiastic pull on the lead with patience and care
Forever fosterers receive full support from the Trust, including cover for all veterinary and specialist dietary costs, ongoing advice from the Welfare Team, and holiday cover to ensure pets are cared for when fosterers are away.
Anyone who feels they could offer a home to a gentle giant is encouraged to apply via the Trust’s website. More details and the application form can be found on the Cinnamon Trust website under fostering a pet: https://cinnamon.org.uk/how-can-you-support-the-trust/fostering-a-pet/
About The Cinnamon Trust
The Cinnamon Trust is the only national charity focused on supporting older people and those with terminal illness with the care of their pets. Supported by more than 20,000 volunteers across the UK, the charity provides practical help when day to day pet care becomes difficult.
For pets who outlive their owners, the Trust offers lifelong care by matching them with forever fosterers or welcoming them into one of its home from home sanctuaries in Devon or Cornwall. The charity does not use kennels or catteries, with all pets cared for in home environments.
