Open Day Set to Support Young People at Risk of Homelessness

YMCA Cornwall is throwing open its doors on Saturday 23rd August 2025 for a special Open Day aimed at raising funds for its Your Help, Their Future campaign.

The charity is aiming to build four new homes for young people aged 16 to 24 who are currently at risk of homelessness in Cornwall. The event offers a chance for the public to visit the site, learn more about the work being done, and get involved in helping provide secure housing for those in need.

What’s Happening on the Day

Visitors can expect a lively afternoon with a BBQ, live music from a male voice choir, a mix of stalls and activities, and guided tours around the YMCA site in Penzance. Homemade cream teas, baked and served by young residents themselves, will also be on offer, with all funds going directly to support the campaign.

It’s more than just a fun day out. The Open Day is a rare chance to see first-hand how community support is transforming lives across Cornwall.

Major Boost from Royal Donation

The Your Help, Their Future campaign recently received a significant boost thanks to a £70,000 donation from The Duke of Cornwall’s Charitable Foundation, alongside contributions from local community groups. But YMCA Cornwall still needs to raise £250,000 to finish the build and secure homes for four more young people who remain on their waiting list.

How You Can Help

YMCA Cornwall is asking for raffle and auction prize donations from local businesses, as well as volunteers, tradespeople, and suppliers who can offer time, skills, or materials towards the build.

Pat Woodfield, CEO of YMCA Cornwall, said:

“Our Open Day is a chance for people to have fun and help us raise funds for the campaign. We’re inviting everyone to see the site, meet the team, and show the community what we do, and how we help.”

The Open Day takes place just one month from now. If you’ve ever wanted to see how your small act of support could change a young life in Cornwall, this might be the perfect time.
