Affordable Half Term Activities at Cardinham Woods

Families looking for affordable outdoor adventures this half term can head to Cardinham Woods, where Forestry England is offering a range of budget-friendly activities for all ages. From themed woodland trails to cycling and wildlife spotting, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this autumn.

Stick Man Family Adventure Trail

Join Stick Man on a magical woodland adventure as he tries to find his way back to the family tree. The trail includes creative activities that help children learn about forest wildlife and woodland birds. Activity leaflets are available from the Ranger’s Hut, open Sunday to Thursday from 9.30am to 3.00pm during the school holidays, for just £1.

Last Chance to Join Wallace and Gromit for Forest Walkies

There’s still time to enjoy Forest Walkies with Wallace and Gromit before it ends this month. For £5, families can pick up an activity pack from the Ranger’s Hut and take on dog-themed challenges while searching for Feathers McGraw. Participants can also enter a competition to win a dog-friendly holiday.

Explore the Trails on Two Wheels

Cycling enthusiasts can enjoy Cardinham Woods’ trails for free. From beginners on balance bikes to off-road riders, there’s a route for everyone. Families can try the gentle Lady Vale Walk, while more confident cyclists can tackle the Bodmin Beast, a singletrack trail with optional red-grade sections. More details can be found here.

Learn and Explore with Forest Activity Bags

Families can hire a Forest Activity Bag for £5 to explore nature up close. Each bag includes up to four hours of fun, with wildlife spotting, forest quizzes and hidden gems to discover. Children also receive a goody bag to take home.

Discover Scenic Walking Trails

There are several walking trails to explore, from gentle streamside paths to challenging uphill climbs. The Lady Vale Walk is pushchair-friendly and features Gruffalo sculptures, while the Wheal Glyn Walk takes hikers to the ruins of Cardinham’s ‘bubble mine’. All-terrain mobility scooters are available for hire so the whole family can take part.

Spot Wildlife in the Woods

Families can turn their walk into a wildlife spotting adventure using Forestry England’s free wildlife spotter sheet. From mini-beasts to roe deer, there’s plenty to see and record throughout the forest.

Cardinham Woods is open throughout half term with activities designed to suit all ages and budgets. Parking charges apply to all activities, although Forestry England members park for free.
