Connor Downs Academy Makes History with Regional Cricket Final

Connor Downs Academy has made sporting history this week after becoming the first ever Cornish and state school to finish as runners-up in a prestigious regional U11 hardball cricket competition.

The team secured their place in the event by defeating Truro Prep in the Cornwall U11 Hardball Final, held on Monday 16th June. They then travelled to King’s College, Taunton, to take on the best from across the region.

Only Millfield Could Stop Them

Once at the regional stage, the young players faced tough opposition but battled brilliantly throughout the tournament. Their only loss came against Millfield School, earning them an impressive second place finish overall.

Cornwall Cricket celebrated the result in a Facebook post, saying, “Facing tough opposition, the team battled brilliantly and finished as runners-up to Millfield School — a truly incredible achievement!”

One for the Record Books

The result marks a double milestone. It’s the first time ever a school from Cornwall — and a state school — has placed this high in the regional event.

Aspire Academy Trust also shared the news on Facebook, calling it “incredible U11 hardball cricketing news” and congratulating the “fabulous lot” from Connor Downs Academy.

Stars in the Making?

Cornwall Cricket hinted that this might not be the last we hear from this team, calling them “some serious talent” and “definitely some names to watch in the future”.
