The Roseland Academy in Cornwall has once again been recognised for its exceptional educational standards, achieving an Outstanding rating in its latest Ofsted inspection.

This accolade marks the school as the first and only secondary institution in Cornwall to be judged Outstanding under the new framework, and the only one in the county to maintain this grade across two inspections.

Consistent Excellence Since 2017

The recent inspection, conducted at the end of May, reaffirmed the Outstanding grade first awarded to The Roseland Academy in 2017. The Ofsted report praises the school’s core values and ethos, highlighting the significant impact on its pupils. The report states, “The Roseland Academy provides pupils with an outstanding education. The trust values of kindness, responsibility, and ambition are reinforced in all areas of school life. Pupils are known as individuals, each contributing to the school community.”

High Standards and Strong Relationships

Students at The Roseland Academy demonstrate a love for learning, described as “self-motivated, curious, and engaged learners” in the report. The school’s high expectations for behaviour are met with enthusiasm by the pupils, fostering an environment where “relationships between adults and pupils are warm and mutually respectful,” and ensuring that “pupils learn without disruption.”

Ambitious Curriculum and Skilled Staff

The Ofsted report commends the school’s ambitious curriculum, noting that it is “highly ambitious for pupils” and meticulously planned to build students’ knowledge and confidence year by year. The expertise of the teaching staff is also highlighted, with the report stating, “Teachers are highly skilled. They ensure that pupils both learn and remember the important knowledge in their subject areas. They carefully check pupils’ understanding so that gaps or misconceptions are quickly identified.”

Leadership and Community Support

Headteacher Richard Clarke expressed his pride and gratitude, stating, “We are incredibly proud to have received this Outstanding rating from Ofsted. This grading is a testament to the exceptional dedication and hard work of our staff, the perseverance and excellence of our students, and the support of our community.”

The report also acknowledges the proactive leadership and governance of The Roseland Trust, which oversees the school. It mentions, “The trust is proactive in considering the workload and well-being of staff. Leaders regularly seek the views of staff and work with them to plan for change. The collaboration between those responsible for governance and the staff has enabled the school to maintain its drive for excellence.”

Celebrations and Recognition

To celebrate this achievement, the school held assemblies for all year groups to express gratitude to the students for their contributions. Special recognition was given to the Year 11 students for their exemplary behaviour and role modelling. In a symbolic gesture, the entire school gathered on the field to form a heart shape, embodying the school’s core values.

Christopher Challis, CEO of The Roseland Trust, also shared his delight: “I am delighted for everyone at The Roseland Academy, for them to have received Outstanding but also a report of this nature that captures the spirit of The Roseland is truly amazing.”

A Beacon of Excellence in Cornwall

The Roseland Academy, with its 656 students, stands as a beacon of educational excellence in Cornwall. As part of The Roseland Trust, which includes four other schools in the region, The Roseland Academy continues to set high standards, providing an inspiring model for other educational institutions.
