Dive into Savings: Cornwall Leisure Centres Offer Swim Discounts for Kids
Cornwall is set to make a splash this summer with a new offer from Better leisure centres aimed at making swimming lessons more accessible and affordable for children.
Starting this May, eligible families can benefit from a 20% discount on regular swim school memberships.
Affordable Swimming Lessons
From 13 to 19 May, during the STA’s International Learn to Swim Week 2024, Better leisure centres across Cornwall are inviting young learners to take advantage of reduced prices on swimming lessons. This comes at a crucial time when many families are beginning to frequent the picturesque beaches of Cornwall.
Amelia, a Senior Manager at GLL, emphasised the importance of this initiative, especially given Cornwall’s extensive coastline. “We’re at the start of what’s likely to be another busy summer season and most families will want to dip their toes in the sea whilst enjoying Cornwall’s wonderful coastline,” she commented.
More Than Just Lessons
The discounted membership is not just about lessons; it also includes free access to ‘swim for all’ sessions at the child’s home centre. This ensures continuous practice and enjoyment of the water beyond the structured lessons.
Aiming for Inclusivity
The concessionary rates are part of Better’s commitment to community wellbeing and inclusivity. Amelia highlighted the worrying trend identified by recent research from Sport England, which shows that a child’s ability to swim 25 meters is significantly influenced by family income. This programme aims to bridge that gap by making professional swimming instruction more accessible to those on benefits such as housing benefit, income support, and universal credit, among others.
Locations
The centres offering these discounted rates are located in various towns including Bude, Saltash, Liskeard, St Austell, Bodmin, Newquay, Truro, Helston, and St Ives.
Dive into Summer
With these efforts, Better leisure centres hope to not only boost swimming skills among the youth of Cornwall but also enhance the safety and enjoyment of the county’s many beautiful beaches during the bustling summer months.
