Penryn College’s Saracens Male Voice Choir made history last month by opening the Youth Sport Trust Conference 2025 with a stirring rendition of Cornwall My Home. The performance, which took place in front of 650 people, marked a proud moment for the school and the wider community.

The choir, formed of Year 10 and 11 sports team members, delivered the beloved Cornish anthem with passion and heart – earning praise from some of Cornwall’s most celebrated musicians.

Praise from Cornish Legends

Singer-songwriter Harry Glasson, who wrote Cornwall My Home, shared his admiration after watching the video of the performance online.

“Well done all of you, what a wonderful inspiration you are,” said Harry.

Musician and singer-songwriter Will Keating, who regularly performs with Harry, also reacted to the choir’s efforts on social media.

“Absolutely brilliant! Well done to all involved!” said Will.

A Powerful Start to a National Conference

The Youth Sport Trust Conference is an annual event that brings together educators from across the UK to explore new ways to deliver physical activity and celebrate its role in education. Held in Telford this year, the event was opened by the Saracens Choir, with the organisation’s Chief Executive Ali Oliver describing the performance as “moving, powerful and inspiring”.

The Story Behind the Saracens Choir

The Penryn College Saracens Male Voice Choir began 22 years ago when students sang Swing Low, Sweet Chariot to celebrate England reaching the final of the 2003 Rugby World Cup.

Since then, the choir has become a cherished part of college life, promoting teamwork and building friendships beyond the sports field. Over the years, its members have performed at care homes, primary schools, college concerts, and even the Royal Albert Hall.

This latest performance stands as another chapter in a proud legacy – proving just how powerful the connection between music and sport can be.
