School’s Homegrown Apples Turned into £3.50 Bottles of Juice for a Good Cause
Marhamchurch C of E Academy has marked National Apple Day with a refreshing twist, turning fruit from its own trees into bottles of locally produced apple juice.
A Taste of Sustainability
The school, which is part of the Learning Academy Partnership, harvested apples from its grounds and had them freshly pressed to create the juice. The bottles, priced at £3.50 for 750ml, are now available at the Marhamchurch village shop and the Refill Shop in Bude.
The effort highlights the school’s focus on sustainability and community engagement, giving pupils a chance to see how local produce can be turned into something tangible and beneficial.
Supporting Enriching Experiences
As well as being available in local shops, the apple juice will also be sold at upcoming PSFA (Parent, Staff & Friends Association) events. All proceeds will go towards funding educational experiences for pupils at the school.
The juice made it to shelves just in time for National Apple Day, celebrated this month to honour the humble apple and the value of traditional orchards. Established in 1990, the annual day encourages appreciation for apple diversity through tasting, juicing and baking activities.
Celebrating Learning and Community
Headteacher Deirdre Petersen said:
“We’re proud to see our school produce being used in such a meaningful way. It’s a wonderful example of how learning, sustainability, and community spirit can come together to benefit our pupils and the local community.”
Tracey Cleverly, CEO of Learning Academy Partnership, added:
“This is a brilliant example of how schools can connect learning with real-world experiences. The apple juice project not only celebrates local produce and enterprise, but also strengthens community ties, something we value deeply across our trust.”
