Want to Make a Difference? Cornwall Youth Council Elections Open Now

Young people across Cornwall are being encouraged to stand for election to the next Cornwall Youth Council.

The council is calling for candidates aged 11 to 18 who want to make a positive change in their communities or help other young people be heard. The deadline to register is 23rd November.

Giving Young People a Voice

Cornwall Youth Council is made up of young people aged 11 and over who live or go to school in Cornwall. Members meet to share the views of children and young people, ensuring they are represented when decisions are made locally.

The council is formed of five roles: Elected Members, Members of Youth Parliament, Associate Members, Peer Mentors, and the Comms Team.

How to Stand as a Candidate

Anyone interested in becoming one of the 18 elected Members of Youth Council can now register to stand in their local area. Each candidate will write a short pledge about what they would like to do if elected.

Young people across Cornwall will then vote for the pledges they like most, with three candidates chosen to represent each of the six constituency areas.

Elected members can also stand as a Member of Youth Parliament.

Other Ways to Get Involved

There are also opportunities to join the council as an Associate Member, Peer Mentor, or part of the Comms Team.
