Climate Vision Offers Free Flood Preparedness Course for Cornwall Residents
As part of #FloodActionWeek, Cornwall-based sustainability consultancy Climate Vision is encouraging people to enjoy getting ready for what it says will be an inevitable increase in flooding across the region.
Preparing for a Warmer World
Founder Luci Isaacson is urging everyone to take action now rather than ignore the growing risks. “Instead of thinking it’s boring, or putting your head in the sand, or wrongly thinking I live on top of a hill it won’t affect me – we all need to adjust to a warmer world and we offer you a nice way to do it,” said Luci.
The organisation is offering a free, hands-on course called Climate Skills through Creativity, available to everyone in Cornwall until January 2026. The accredited course combines technology, real-world learning and expert-led training to help individuals and businesses prepare for climate impacts, particularly flooding.
Free Course to Build Climate Confidence
The programme, supported by regional partners and Cornwall Council’s Culture and Creative Industries Innovation Fund, is designed to give participants the knowledge and confidence to take meaningful action.
Participants can:
• Learn how to get insurance
• Complete a grab bag plan
• Complete a heat plan
• Sign up for flood warnings
• Book a private 1:1 flood risk snapshot with a listening expert
• Explore the Climate Change Risk Assessment for the UK and for Cornwall
• Hear from the authors of both Climate Change Risk Assessments – including the UK author now leading Mission Control and setting up GB Energy
• Meet academics, officers and experts at the final event at the Climate Change Centre
• Watch the #MadeForCornwall #BeFloodReady Aardman Animations film
• Experience past Cornish climate stories through augmented reality
• Understand emissions in a real-world future scenario at a Cornish hotspot
• Learn how to access flood protection products
Open to All
The course is open to everyone in Cornwall – from ordinary people and businesses to educators, leaders and those at flood risk. It also welcomes individuals looking to upskill for careers in renewables or nature-based solutions, and businesses wanting to prepare their teams for the challenges and opportunities of a changing climate.
Recent participants include a UN bio scientist, a carbon literacy trainer and residents from areas like Mevagissey who have praised the engaging and practical approach.
One participant commented: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the course, learning how we can all help and to hear the great work you are doing in and around Mevagissey to reduce the impact of flooding that regularly occurs.”
