In a heartwarming rescue operation on Easter Sunday, HM Coastguard Padstow, along with Newquay Coastguard and Padstow Lifeboat, successfully saved a spaniel named Uma after she fell over a cliff at Mother Ivey’s.

Easter Call to Action

At 1156HRS, the Padstow Search & Rescue Team received a distress call concerning a dog that had tumbled down a cliff near the scenic area of Mother Ivey’s. The incident, identified as 10-2024, prompted an immediate response from both the Newquay Coastguard Search & Rescue Team and the Padstow Lifeboat to assist in the operation.

Teamwork Leads to Success

The rescue operation saw a display of commendable teamwork and expertise. With the Newquay team providing essential support on land and the Padstow All-Weather Lifeboat (ALB) ensuring safety from the water, a cliff technician was deployed to the precarious location. The technician quickly managed to befriend Uma, the adventurous spaniel, securing her safely in an animal rescue bag before both were recovered to the safety of the cliff top.

A Happy Reunion

The reunion of Uma with her grateful owners was a joyous moment, encapsulating the essence of community and the unspoken bond between humans and their pets. The owners, relieved and thankful for the safe return of their four-legged family member, consented to share a photograph of the rescue. They joined the Coastguard in urging dog owners to keep their pets on leads while walking along the coast, hoping to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Readiness and Reminders

By 1330HRS, the Padstow Coastguard Rescue Vehicle (CRV) was back at the station, prepared for the next call to duty. This successful operation not only highlighted the efficiency and readiness of the rescue teams but also served as a timely reminder of the dangers posed by coastal walks to unsuspecting pets and their owners.

The Coastguard reiterates the importance of vigilance and safety, reminding the public to dial 999 for the Coastguard in case of any coastal emergencies. The collaborative effort on this Easter Sunday underlines the commitment of the Coastguard and related agencies to ensuring the safety of both people and their pets along Britain’s beautiful but sometimes treacherous coastlines.
