Daring Rescue: Coastguards Save Dog Trapped in Deep Hole Near Strangles Beach
On Saturday, 6th July 2024, the Bude Coastguard Rescue Team was paged at 12:07 to assist the Boscastle Coastguard Team in a challenging rescue mission near Strangles Beach, just south of Crackington Haven.
The teams were tasked with ensuring the safety of a dog owner whose pet had accidentally fallen into a deep hole within a field.
Rescue Mission Details
Upon arriving at the scene, the teams located the dog’s owner and quickly assessed the situation. The dog had fallen approximately 10 feet down onto a ledge within the hole. After a brief discussion, the teams decided that a vertical rope rescue method was the best approach to recover the stranded animal.
A Successful Retrieval
A Rope Rescue Technician was lowered into the hole with the help of a vertical rope system. Using a few tasty treats to coax the dog, the technician successfully managed to retrieve the pet. Once back on solid ground, the dog was found to be relieved, unharmed, and happy. The pet was promptly reunited with its grateful owner, marking the successful end of the rescue operation.
The swift and effective response by both the Bude and Boscastle Coastguard Teams ensured the safety and well-being of both the dog and its owner. This incident highlights the dedication and skill of the coastguard teams in handling emergency situations.
