Cornish Lithium, has announced that £14,280 has been awarded to eight community organisations across Cornwall through its latest round of funding.

The mineral exploration and development company, known for pioneering the environmentally responsible extraction of lithium from hard rock and geothermal waters in Cornwall, is helping to support local projects while contributing to the UK’s renewable energy transition.

Supporting Cornwall’s Future

The Cornish Lithium Community Fund offers grants between £250 and £2,500 to clubs, charities and activity groups that aim to make a positive difference in areas where the company operates. These include Gwennap, Chacewater, St Day, Carharrack and St Agnes Blackwater parishes, the China Clay Area and Luxulyan Community Area Partnership region, and the Redruth Tolgus area.

Each year, applications are invited from groups focused on education, skills development, social welfare, environmental improvement, health, wellbeing and Cornwall’s industrial heritage.

Strengthening Community Connections

ClayTAWC in St Dennis has launched a new group called Lunchtime Friends, combining its Memory Café with its Pasty Pal scheme to bring people together over food and shared activities.

Crofthandy Village Hall will use its funding to install a battery for electricity storage, cutting energy costs and supporting the many local groups that use the hall.

Indian Queens Victory Hall will arrange chair yoga sessions for older residents and host a history talk exploring the local impact of World War II.

Mills Hall Trust in Carharrack plans to replace windows to improve the building’s energy efficiency, helping to make the hall more sustainable for concerts, lectures and community events.

Resilient Orchards Cornwall will create a community orchard in the North Trenoweth ward of Redruth and run four workshops to teach traditional orchard maintenance skills.

The Royal Institution of Cornwall, which runs the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro, will use its grant to fund free rocks and minerals workshops for 300 children from ten schools in Cornish Lithium’s project areas, encouraging young people to learn more about Cornwall’s mining heritage and industrial future.

St Dennis Ukulele Club will use its funding to buy new equipment to enhance performances and bring people together through music.

The Farming Mother CIC, based in the China Clay Network Area, will use its grant to achieve an ASDAN Specialist Diploma in Adult and Community Education. The course will help develop personal, social and employability skills for young people and adults, particularly those with additional needs.

Investing in Cornwall’s Wellbeing

“Cornish Lithium Community Fund panel members were inspired by all of these schemes to stimulate social interaction, improve energy efficiency, encourage learning and promote wellbeing in the areas where our lithium exploration and extraction projects are located,” said Zoe Carter, ESG Lead at Cornish Lithium. “We are immensely proud to support them with awards made through our latest funding round and look forward to learning about the positive impacts that these initiatives will have on our local communities.”

“It is wonderful to see the diverse range of community initiatives being supported through this partnership with Cornish Lithium,” added Tamas Haydu, CEO of Cornwall Community Foundation. “From educational workshops that celebrate Cornwall’s mining heritage to projects promoting health, wellbeing and sustainability, these grants embody the spirit of community-led positive change that we champion at Cornwall Community Foundation.”

The Cornish Lithium Community Fund is administered by the Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF). Details of the 2026 funding round will be published on Cornish Lithium’s website later this year.
