Friendship and Fun Light Up Rainy Days for Oddfellows Members
Members of the Oddfellows Friendly Society came together in Redruth and Truro this November for two lively afternoons packed with laughter, community spirit, and a touch of friendly competition.
A Warm Escape from the Storm
Despite the wet and windy weather outside, the atmosphere inside was filled with warmth and good humour. The monthly gatherings featured small prize quizzes, traditional card bingo, and a raffle, with proceeds going to local causes chosen by the members themselves.
District Secretary Pete English summed up the mood of the events, saying, “Despite the stormy conditions, the warmth inside was truly remarkable. It’s a reminder that, no matter the weather, the real value of these meetings lies in the connections we share and the support we offer each other. We are far more though, we are a Friendly Society with all that offers.”
Games, Treats and Community Care
Guests enjoyed a spread of savoury pastries, Cornish Hevva cake, chocolate biscuits, sweets and fresh fruit, all served with plenty of hot drinks. The District Welfare Representative also used the opportunity to share important safety advice, handing out free scam-avoidance booklets and RFID card protectors to help members stay safe.
The afternoon also included a popular book club where attendees could pick up free books, talking books and DVDs to take home.
Building Bonds and Looking Ahead
Before the meetings wrapped up, members were updated on future events, including group lunches and free chair yoga sessions designed to continue building friendships and strengthening the sense of community.
With so much to enjoy, both Redruth and Truro’s meetings were described as resounding successes by all who attended.
