St. Breward Church Flower Festival Opens This Weekend
St. Breward Church, the highest church in Cornwall, will be bursting with colour from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th September as its bi-annual Flower Festival returns. The event will raise funds towards the church’s insurance costs.
A Celebration of Nature and Creation
This year’s theme is ‘Nature and Creation’, with the church set to be transformed into a vibrant tapestry of colour, fragrance and creativity. Visitors will be able to enjoy handmade crafts including patchwork quilts, woodturning and knitted pieces alongside fresh floral displays, each reflecting the beauty of the natural world and human imagination.
One of the highlights will be the unveiling of a handmade Flower Garland. Measuring over 350 metres, it features more than 2,900 knitted and crocheted flowers. The garland will adorn the roof, columns and the Village Hall, where refreshments will be served throughout the weekend.
Rooted in Community Spirit
St. Breward Church has long stood as the heart of the village, a place of heritage and connection in North Cornwall. The Flower Festival is described as a cherished tradition, offering the chance for the community to come together in celebration of both nature and creativity.
The combination of handmade crafts and fresh-cut flowers will be curated by local florists, crafters and residents, each contributing their own interpretation of this year’s theme.
Food, Tradition and Togetherness
Visitors will also be able to relax in the Village Hall, where homemade lunches, coffee and cakes will be on offer.
The festival continues a long tradition of flower festivals in the British Isles, which have historically celebrated the seasons, agriculture and community togetherness. At St. Breward, the tradition is reimagined every time, with new themes and surprises.
