Labour Launches Campaign: What Could May 2025 Mean for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle?
Labour kicked off their campaign for the May 2025 local elections with a rally in Camborne Town Square on Saturday. The event brought together candidates, activists, and Labour MP Perran Moon, who delivered a rousing speech highlighting the party’s ambition to challenge the Conservatives in Camborne, Redruth and Hayle.
Perran Moon: Labour Could Win Big
Speaking to the gathered crowd, Perran Moon outlined Labour’s opportunity to gain seats on Cornwall Council. He pointed to ongoing Conservative challenges, including resignations, controversies, and a no-confidence vote in Conservative leader Linda Taylor last year, as reasons Labour could make significant gains.
“What would help me do my job, both here and in Westminster, would be to have good, strong Labour councillors to help me enact Labour policies,” Perran said, urging supporters to back the party’s candidates.
Redruth’s Councillor Stephen Barnes: A Historic Election Ahead
Councillor Stephen Barnes, Redruth’s Town Mayor (second year of a 2-year term), has been a Councillor since 1985 and a lifelong resident, spoke about the significance of the upcoming election. “The 1st May local election is poignant for the town of Redruth,” Stephen said.
Reflecting on his years in the town, he added, “There is not a doubt that Redruth is a great place to live and work in. From having lived here all my life and sat on the Town Council since 1985, I have seen the town adapt through time. However, there has been a clear need to revitalise, whilst most crucially, keeping the history and residents of the town at the heart of it.”
Andy Netherwood: A Fresh Voice for Cornwall Council
Andy Netherwood, Labour’s candidate for Cornwall Council in Perranporth, also shared his motivations for standing. Drawing on his Armed Forces background, Andy said, “I’m standing for Cornwall Council because I want to serve the community that welcomed me after my service in the Armed Forces. This community deserves a strong, effective voice, and I’m committed to being just that.”
Labour’s Campaign Strategy
The Camborne, Redruth and Hayle Labour team has been knocking on doors and listening to residents’ concerns across the constituency since before Christmas. According to the party, they will continue this outreach every weekend leading up to the elections on 1st May.
This local election is shaping up to be pivotal for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle, with Labour determined to challenge the Conservative dominance on Cornwall Council.
