Published On: 3 February 2024Last Updated: 3 February 2024By

In a heartwarming incident this week, the team at Cornwall Airport Newquay (Team NQY) embarked on a unique rescue operation on their aerodrome. A distressed hedgehog found on the premises was the center of attention, leading to a swift and compassionate response from the airport staff.

The airport’s chosen charity, Prickles and Paws, was immediately contacted and stepped in to ensure the spiky little creature received the necessary care and attention. The rescue operation highlighted the airport team’s commitment to wildlife conservation and their readiness to protect vulnerable species within their vicinity.

In celebration of the successful rescue, Cornwall Airport Newquay took to social media to applaud the efforts of their team, the resilience of the hedgehogs, and the commendable work done by Prickles & Paws. The charity, known for its dedication to the welfare of hedgehogs, operates with the goal of rehabilitating and releasing these creatures back into the wild.

Prickles & Paws is currently seeking donations to fund a bespoke hedgehog hospital to accommodate the increasing number of hedgehogs needing care, with over 1,300 admissions each year. The charity’s initiative to expand its facilities underlines the growing need for specialised care for hedgehogs, which face numerous threats from habitat loss and road traffic.

The airport’s post also included a link for those interested in supporting Prickles & Paws’ noble cause, directing well-wishers to contribute towards the creation of the hedgehog hospital. This act of kindness and community spirit exemplifies the broader efforts needed to protect and conserve wildlife in Cornwall and beyond. Click here to donate.

As Team NQY continues to keep their eyes open for any wildlife in need of assistance, its partnership with Prickles & Paws stands as a testament to the positive impact that can be achieved when organisations come together for a common cause.
