Easter Passenger Surge at Cornwall Airport Newquay: What’s Behind the Sudden Rise?

Nearly 6,000 Passengers Over the Bank Holiday Weekend

Cornwall Airport Newquay has revealed a striking spike in passenger numbers this Easter, with 5,856 people choosing to fly from the airport over the bank holiday weekend.

Compared to Easter 2024, that’s just shy of a 50% increase in footfall — a figure that’s hard to ignore. A total of 74 flights took off across the holiday period, marking a 34.5% jump in departures compared to the same time last year.

New Routes and Familiar Names Return

The surge in numbers was helped by the return of some familiar routes and the launch of a brand new connection. In total, 14 routes operated over the weekend, including the newly launched route to London Southend Airport.

Also back in the early Easter 2025 schedule were flights from Edelweiss and Eurowings, offering more choice to passengers looking to fly direct from Cornwall.

‘Proper Local’ Airport Sees Early Signs of Bigger Things to Come

Cornwall Airport Newquay described the growth as a strong sign of things to come, writing on Facebook:

“With just shy of a 50% increase in passengers, as well as a 34.5% increase in flights compared to last year’s Easter weekend, we saw huge growth here at your ‘proper local’ airport, and we’re confident this is just the start.”

They also gave thanks to staff and passengers for their support:

“A huge shout out to #TeamNQY for keeping things running smoothly and to each of the 5,856 passengers who chose to start their journey with us.”
