Cornish Apprentices Head to Italy to Fight for England – But They Need Your Help
Two Cornish Muay Thai fighters are preparing to fly the flag for England at an international competition in Italy this June – but they’re facing a financial fight to get there.
From Cornwall College to the World Stage
Dan Liston and Matt Bramall, both Engineering Apprentices at Cornwall College St Austell, have been dedicated to Muay Thai for over six years. Their journey from local training sessions to the prestigious 2025 Muay Thai Festival in Verona is a testament to their grit, discipline and community support.
“Growing up in Cornwall, we didn’t have access to all the resources that some fighters might, but that never stopped us from chasing our dreams,” said Dan. “Now, we have the honour of representing our country in one of the biggest Muay Thai events in the world.”
The Muay Thai Festival, held this June in Verona, brings together elite fighters from around the globe and is regarded as one of the sport’s top international gatherings.
Financial Hurdles for a Dream Opportunity
While the opportunity to compete on such a prestigious stage is a dream come true, the costs involved are substantial. Dan and Matt are currently fundraising to cover their travel, accommodation, training and competition fees.
“This isn’t just about competing, it’s about showcasing our hard work, representing Cornwall on an international level and inspiring others in our community to pursue their passion for the sport,” said Matt.
The pair are now appealing to local businesses, sports fans and supporters across Cornwall to help make their dream possible.
