Cornwall’s Colleges Rally Apprentices and Employers for Project 50 – Will You Step Up?

Published On: 12 February 2025Last Updated: 12 February 2025By

Colleges across Cornwall are calling on apprentices and their employers to take part in Project 50, a campaign designed to highlight the power of apprenticeships in shaping the workforce.

What is Project 50?

The South West Apprenticeships Ambassador Network has teamed up with Cornwall College, Duchy College, Falmouth Marine School, Truro and Penwith College, and the Career Hub to expand the number of apprentice and employer ambassadors. The focus is on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), recognising their crucial role in developing future talent.

With National Apprenticeship Week approaching, colleges in Cornwall are urging apprentices and businesses to step forward and share their experiences.

“We believe in the transformative power of apprenticeships, not just for individuals but for entire communities and industries,” said Rob Bosworth, Principal and CEO of The Cornwall College Group.

He added: “Through this project, we aim to amplify the voices of those who have experienced these benefits first-hand, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.”

Why Get Involved?

For Martin Tucker, Principal of Truro and Penwith College, Project 50 is an opportunity to shine a light on local talent.

“We encourage current apprentices and their employers to get on board with Project 50 and share their experiences with organisations and individuals who may be considering recruiting or becoming an apprentice.”

He also highlighted the wider impact of the campaign:

“The Apprenticeship Ambassador Network will offer fantastic opportunities to promote the value of apprenticeships to schools, careers advisers, parents and businesses and, in doing so, provide additional professional and personal development for Cornwall’s apprentice community.”

By focusing on SMEs, Project 50 aims to ensure apprenticeships remain accessible and impactful, helping businesses unlock the potential of local talent.

How to Take Part

The first Project 50 event will take place on Thursday 6th March 2025 at Scorrier House, Redruth, from 3pm to 5pm. Businesses, apprentices, and stakeholders are encouraged to attend.
