Cornwall Council Opens Its Doors: Public to Watch Key Decisions Made Live

Published On: 19 October 2025Last Updated: 19 October 2025By

Cornwall Council will begin holding new public Individual Decision Days from the end of October, giving residents the chance to see how important Council choices are made.

Decisions Made in Public

The new sessions will allow Cabinet Members to make significant decisions in public, with the aim of increasing openness and transparency. The change, first announced by Council Leader Cllr Leigh Frost at the Full Council meeting in September, is part of the administration’s pledge to be more accountable and member-led.

Leigh said: “I promised to make Cornwall Council more open and led by its elected members. Individual Decision Days are a key part of that promise. They mean that big decisions about Cornwall’s future will be made by cabinet members, in public, where everyone can see what’s happening and why.

“This is about putting accountability and openness at the heart of how we work. People should be able to see how the decision-making process works, ask questions, and understand how those decisions affect their communities. That’s what a member-led Council looks like.”

How It Will Work

Cabinet members will be joined by Council officers to explain reports and answer questions, while other councillors will be able to take part online. Members of the public can send in questions in advance, and the meetings will be streamed live online.

All reports will be published five working days before each session, ensuring full transparency ahead of the discussions.

The first Individual Decision Day will take place on Wednesday, 29th October 2025, followed by sessions on 3rd December 2025, 28th January 2026, 25th February 2026, and 22nd April 2026.

Building Trust Through Transparency

Leigh added: “This is another step in making Cornwall Council more open and transparent.

“Residents deserve to see how and why decisions are made on their behalf, and to know that their elected members are the ones taking those decisions in the public eye. It’s about building trust and showing that local democracy is alive and well here in Cornwall.”
