Cornwall Council reminds beachgoers to use BBQ bins safely

Cornwall Council has issued a warning urging people not to put rubbish in designated BBQ bins on beaches, stressing that doing so could cause fires.

BBQ bins are for disposable BBQs only

The council explained that the special bins, which are placed on some beaches across Cornwall, are designed solely for the safe disposal of disposable BBQs.

Other waste items must not be placed in them. Instead, visitors are asked to use general rubbish bins provided, or if those are full, to take their waste home.

Safety warning

In a post shared on Sunday 17th August 2025, Cornwall Council said:

“❌ Don’t put rubbish in BBQ bins – it could start a fire!
Please put your rubbish in the general rubbish bin, or take it home with you.
BBQ bins, which are in place on some beaches, should only be used for disposable BBQs.”

The reminder comes during the busy summer season, when beaches are crowded and the risk of fire from improper waste disposal is heightened.
