Cornwall Residents to See Halved Parking Ticket Costs Amid New Schemes

Cornwall Council has announced a significant reduction in the cost of seasonal parking tickets for residents, alongside the introduction of a trial for motorhome parking in Bude, in efforts to make parking more affordable and sustainable.

Starting April 1, 2024, Cornwall residents who spend at least six months of the year in the area can take advantage of the slashed prices for the Resident Season Ticket. This ticket allows parking in a specified Council car park for periods of six, seven, or twelve months, with prices varying by location. For instance, parking in Camborne, Helston (Castle Green), and Cawsand will cost £105 for six months and £210 for a year. In St Austell, Redruth, Launceston, Bodmin, and Penryn, the fees are set at £160.65 for six months and £302.40 for a year. Higher rates apply in Truro, St Ives, Falmouth, and Bude, where six months of parking will cost £273 and a year £504. Details on purchasing the Resident Season Ticket will be available on the Council’s website from March 25.

In addition to the parking ticket cost reduction, Cornwall Council is piloting overnight parking for fully self-contained motorhomes at The Crescent car park in Bude. The trial, running from April 1, 2024, will charge £20 for overnight stays from April to October and £15 from November to March, aligning with the fees of other local providers.

Richard Williams-Pears, Cornwall Council’s cabinet portfolio holder for transport, emphasised the Council’s commitment to enhancing sustainable travel options and responding to resident needs.

Acknowledging road transport’s significant contribution to Cornwall’s carbon emissions, Williams-Pears highlighted the importance of considering the environmental impact of travel. The Resident Season Ticket scheme and the motorhome parking trial are responses to the community’s feedback, aiming to support residents’ needs and the desires of the motorhome community while considering the implications for local communities and businesses.

Furthermore, changes to the JustPark ‘multi-use’ sessions now allow drivers more flexibility, enabling them to use their parking sessions in the majority of long-stay Council car parks. This adjustment comes as a response to residents’ feedback, further reducing the cost and increasing the convenience of parking in Cornwall.
