Special Event Seeks to Recruit Carers for Disabled Children in Cornwall
Join Cornwall Council’s Recruitment Day to Make a Difference
A special recruitment event is being held tomorrow (Saturday, July 13th) by Cornwall Council, aiming to attract caring and compassionate individuals to support disabled children, young people, and their families across the region. The event will take place at Chy Trevail in Bodmin from 11 am to 1 pm, offering attendees the chance to apply for jobs and even book interviews on the spot.
Roles Available
The council is looking to fill several vital roles, each offering a unique opportunity to make a positive impact:
Direct Payments Personal Assistants
Families in Cornwall are seeking Personal Assistants to support their disabled children or young people under private arrangements. This role involves building positive relationships and helping children and young people enjoy activities within their local community. It’s a rewarding job where you can significantly influence the lives of those you support.
Family Based Short Break Carers
The Family Based Short Breaks scheme provides essential respite care for disabled children in a carer’s own home. This can range from a few hours per month to a couple of nights per week. Carers will receive supervision, support, training, and competitive pay rates.
Crisis Residential and Outreach Service
Cornwall Council is also recruiting staff for their new residential crisis intervention and outreach service in Cardinham. This facility offers short-term residential care while working with families to find solutions. Additionally, positions are available in children’s homes for disabled children in Gwenapp and St Blazey, as well as a residential short break home in St Blazey.
A Word from Cornwall Council
Barbara Ellenbroek, cabinet member for children and families at Cornwall Council, emphasised the importance of these roles, stating, “There are many families in Cornwall caring full-time for a disabled child and all of them deserve help and support, whether that’s through dedicated personal assistants, our fabulous SCIP team, or the vital short-breaks service we provide. It is one of our priorities that Cornwall is a brilliant place to be a child and grow up, and that means ensuring all children with disabilities have the right support to achieve their goals and fulfil their dreams.”
Barbara added, “All children are different and to meet their needs, we are looking for a wide variety of people. If you think you have the enthusiasm, compassion and skills to help them do this then please come along to our recruitment open day on Saturday. It could be the start of a new and rewarding career!”
