Tanuvi Ethunandan has been appointed as the first Chair of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fairness Commission, a new organisation aimed at creating positive change in the region. Tanuvi, a Cornwall resident and AI Product Manager, was selected following an open application and interview process.

A Leader in Tech and Social Change

Tanuvi’s professional background is rooted in technology and leadership. As the previous Founder and CEO of a tech startup, she has earned multiple accolades, including being named one of the ‘Women in Tech’ 2022 by both the West Country Women Awards and TechSW. She has also featured in TechRound’s ‘50 under 50’ BAME leaders list and the ICAEW Annual Report.

With a degree in Economics from Cambridge University and a Masters in Entrepreneurship, Tanuvi brings a wealth of experience, including her time working as a Chartered Accountant at EY. She now hopes to apply her passion for data-driven solutions to her role as Chair of the Fairness Commission.

“I am excited about taking a data-driven approach to help deliver genuine positive change in the Duchy,” said Tanuvi. “The newly created Fairness Commission presents a great opportunity to help focus efforts towards making Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly inclusive, accessible, and a place of equal opportunity for all.”

The Role of the Fairness Commission

The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fairness Commission aims to make the region fairer and more inclusive. Its next steps involve the selection of Commissioners, or Representatives, with applications expected to open this autumn.

Professor Emma Hunt, Vice-Chancellor of Falmouth University, who led the Fairness Commission Development Group, emphasised the importance of the Commission’s work. “This is an important step towards making Cornwall fairer and more inclusive through research and solutions addressing health, poverty, and access to opportunity,” she said.

A Vision for a Fairer Cornwall

Councillor Carol Mould, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, expressed her excitement about Tanuvi’s appointment. “I am delighted to see someone with Tanuvi’s experience being appointed chairman of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fairness Commission. To have someone with her tech knowledge, leadership skills, and passion for creating real change in society is really good news as we work to make our county fairer and more inclusive.”

The Fairness Commission represents a new opportunity to unite people and organisations across the public, private, and community sectors to drive positive social change in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
