Could You Be Cornwall’s Next Firefighter? Have a Go This November
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is giving people the chance to experience what it’s like to be an on-call firefighter at a series of taster events taking place this month.
Try the Role for Yourself
The Have a Go sessions are being held ahead of the service’s upcoming recruitment campaign. On-call firefighters make up around 75% of Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, and the events are designed to give potential recruits a taste of the role.
The sessions will take place at:
-
Newquay Fire Station – 12th November 2025, 5pm to 8.30pm
-
Bodmin Fire Station – 15th November 2025, 9am to 1pm
-
Penzance Fire Station – 17th November 2025, 5pm to 8.30pm
Participants will be able to try out equipment, learn about the physical and practical aspects of the job, and talk directly to serving firefighters about their experiences.
Open to All Aged 18 and Over
Whether you’re considering a new challenge, curious about the role, or simply want to find out more, anyone aged 18 or over is welcome to attend.
Chief Fire Officer Kathryn Billing said:
“These taster sessions give people the chance to find out what being a firefighter is really about.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to join our service, we’d love to see you there.”
Assistant Chief Fire Officer and Diversity and Inclusion Lead Antony Bartlett added:
“On-call firefighters come from all walks of life and we want to hear from people with different life experiences.
These events are a great opportunity to find out more about on-call firefighters and to ask questions about the role.”
Recruitment Opens Soon
Applications to become an on-call firefighter open on 24th November 2025.
More information about the events and the recruitment process is available on the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service website.
