Injured Hiker Rescued by West Cornwall Volunteers in Idless Woods

Published On: 26 June 2024Last Updated: 26 June 2024By

On Monday, 24th June 2024, the West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team was called into action by the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

At 11:00 am, a request was made for assistance with the extraction of an injured person in Idless Woods. The uneven terrain posed a significant challenge, making it difficult for the ambulance service to carry the individual back to the Forestry England car park.

Coordinated Effort and Medical Assistance

The dedicated volunteers from the West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team not only helped with the physical extraction but also provided crucial medical support. Their cas-carers worked alongside paramedics to ensure the injured person received the necessary medical attention. This coordinated effort highlighted the importance of teamwork in emergency situations.

A Grateful Response

Following the successful rescue, the team received heartfelt thanks from a relative of the injured person. The message expressed immense gratitude: “A massive thank you for helping today in Idless Woods. Your support was hugely appreciated and I can’t thank you enough.”

Successful First Call-Out for Probationary Members

This operation marked a significant milestone for some of the team’s probationary members. Just days after receiving their red jackets, they participated in their first call-out and performed admirably. The team was officially stood down at 12:00 pm, concluding a swift and effective rescue mission.
