Brave Swimmers Raise Thousands for Ocean Emergency Fund – Join the Next Big Challenge!

Published On: 17 September 2024Last Updated: 17 September 2024By

Fifteen dedicated swimmers recently took on the 5K Across the Bay challenge, raising an impressive £2,418 for Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Ocean Emergency Fund. The endurance event saw them swim from Rosemullion to Pendennis to help protect the maerl and seagrass beds in Falmouth Bay, which are vital to the marine ecosystem.

Swimming for a Cause

The event, supported by a rescue crew that included Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Marine Conservation Officer Matt Slater, highlights the Trust’s ongoing work to preserve Cornwall’s precious marine life. The funds raised will contribute to safeguarding underwater habitats, including the diverse species that depend on them.

Next Up: Eden Project Marathon

For those feeling inspired by the swimmers’ efforts, Cornwall Wildlife Trust has announced its next major fundraiser – the Eden Project Marathon and Half Marathon, set to take place on Sunday 20th October 2024. The event offers a chance to run through Cornwall’s most iconic landscapes, including the Eden Project biomes and Helman Tor, the Trust’s largest nature reserve.

In 2023, Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s first ever Eden Marathon and Half Marathon team raised over £4,000 for Cornwall’s wildlife, and now the Trust is inviting runners to join the 2024 team. Participants will receive tailored fundraising support from the Trust’s Community Fundraising team, free entry to the Eden Project for themselves and their supporters, and a Cornish pasty and beer at the finish line.

How to Get Involved

Cornwall Wildlife Trust is now recruiting for 4 Marathon and 2 Half Marathon spaces. Runners are asked to raise £500 in sponsorship for the Marathon or £300 for the Half Marathon. All funds raised will help secure the future of Cornwall’s wildlife.
