Creative Cornwall Hosts Beach Fundraiser Inspired by Humpback Whale Sighting
In a unique celebration of marine life and creativity, Creative Cornwall, a collective comprising artists, musicians, writers, and filmmakers, is set to host a beach fundraiser to support the conservation of humpback whales. The event, sparked by the inspiring sighting of a baby humpback whale during a creative walk, aims to rally support for the Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s (CWT) efforts to protect these majestic creatures.
Scheduled for International Whale Day on Sunday, 18th February 2024, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, the free event will take place at the Wellow, Praa Sands beach, a location renowned for its stunning coastal beauty. Attendees will be treated to an art exhibition featuring original artworks donated by members of Creative Cornwall. All proceeds from the sale of these artworks will benefit CWT and Seaquest, directly supporting their vital conservation initiatives.
The event promises a vibrant atmosphere with live music performances by local artists, set against the backdrop of the picturesque beach. Highlighting the evening will be a whale-inspired talk by Bafta and Emmy award-winning wildlife filmmaker Ian McCarthy, offering insights into the lives of humpback whales and the importance of conserving their habitats.
The event is designed to be inclusive and accessible to all, welcoming families, children, adults, experts, and beginners alike. With facilities fully accessible to those with mobility challenges, the venue ensures a comfortable experience for every attendee. Guests are encouraged to bring their dogs along, as the event is dog-friendly, adding to the communal spirit of the day. Additionally, ample paid parking and bicycle parking facilities are available, ensuring convenient access for all visitors.
Beyond the art exhibition and musical performances, guests can enjoy a range of dining options, with the venue’s fully licensed bar and restaurant open throughout the day, offering delicious food and drinks.
For those interested in supporting the cause or simply enjoying a day filled with art, music, and marine conservation education, reservations are recommended but not essential. The event stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to protecting the natural world, offering an opportunity for people to come together in support of a vital cause while enjoying the creative talents of Cornwall.
