Help Save Hedgehogs in Cornwall: Become a Wildlife Volunteer Today!
Are you ready to dive into nature and contribute to wildlife conservation? Here’s a chance to step up and make a real difference.
The Cornwall Wildlife Trust, in partnership with the Cornwall and Devon Mammal Group, is calling for enthusiastic volunteers to join the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme, spearheaded by the People’s Trust for Endangered Species.
Volunteer for Hedgehog Happiness
This year, the focus is on setting up camera traps at two key locations: Helman Tor and Hamatethy. The project kicks off on the 2nd May 2024 at Helman Tor. Whether you’re a seasoned wildlife enthusiast or a newcomer eager to learn, this opportunity is perfect as full training will be provided on the first day by the experts from PTES.
What’s Involved?
Volunteers will be involved in deploying and collecting camera traps. Prepare for a full day’s adventure in nature, as the terrain can be challenging and often wet. A good level of physical fitness is required to navigate the landscape effectively and ensure the smooth operation of this crucial monitoring task.
How to Get Involved
No previous experience? No problem! The team welcomes all who are eager to learn and contribute. If you’re interested in lending a hand and want to know more about what the day involves, reach out to Abby Whitmore, the Data & Evidence Officer at Cornwall Wildlife Trust, via abby.whitmore@cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk. You can find out more about volunteering on the Cornwall Wildlife Trust website.
Why It Matters
Participating in this programme not only helps in the conservation of one of Britain’s beloved mammals but also offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in wildlife monitoring techniques. It’s a perfect chance to meet like-minded individuals, learn new skills, and contribute to vital conservation efforts.
So, if you’re looking for an opportunity to contribute to wildlife conservation and have a direct impact on the survival of hedgehogs, consider volunteering for the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme. Let’s help keep our spiky friends safe and thriving in their natural habitat!
