Could You Help Save Lives This Summer? Crantock Surf Life Saving Club Needs You

Published On: 5 April 2025Last Updated: 5 April 2025By

Crantock Surf Life Saving Club is on the lookout for enthusiastic and committed volunteers to support its growing membership and wider community as the 2025 summer season approaches.

The club, which promotes beach safety through education and patrolling, also provides training for lifesavers at all levels – from nippers to professional lifeguards – and supports members who compete in Lifesaving Sport, from local events to international competitions.

Roles Available

Volunteers are needed for several key roles, and the club is encouraging people with relevant experience or transferable skills to step forward. However, they also welcome those with the enthusiasm to learn and develop into these positions in the future.

Here are the roles they are looking to fill:

Safeguarding Officer

This role involves supporting the committee on safeguarding matters, verifying DBS checks, ensuring policies and procedures are followed, co-ordinating safeguarding groups, and acting as a contact for any queries or complaints at club events.

Senior Training Officer

The Senior Training Officer helps develop and assess coaches, offers support and mentoring, organises training sessions, maintains training records, and liaises with external providers such as SLS GB, SLS Cornwall, swimming pools and gyms.

Membership Secretary

Responsible for handling new member enquiries, advising on available options, managing membership records, working with the Treasurer on club numbers and fees, and ensuring coaches are informed of new members’ abilities to integrate them smoothly into club activities.

Safety Officer

Working alongside the Beach Safety Officer, Patrols Officer, Safeguarding Officer, Maintenance Officer and Coaches, the Safety Officer helps create a safe environment by implementing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and providing health and safety guidance.

All officers are expected to attend monthly committee meetings and will receive ongoing support from existing members, some of whom have previously held these roles. In some cases, tasks are shared between small teams. The club also benefits from connections with SLS GB and SLS Cornwall for additional resources.

No Experience? No Problem

While previous experience is helpful, Crantock SLSC says commitment and enthusiasm are just as important. They’re also keen to hear from people interested in taking on a deputy or assistant role to develop into one of the positions in the future.

Volunteers don’t need to be existing members of the club, but they will be expected to join in order to be officially elected.

Join the Team

The club is planning to fill these roles at its AGM on Sunday 27th April 2025, which will take place at the Clubhouse. Anyone interested in being nominated is encouraged to attend.
