The Crantock Bale Push 2024 culminated in a generous contribution to local organisations, as revealed at the Annual Presentation Evening held at The Bowgie Inn, West Pentire on Thursday, 31st October. This final event of the Bale Push calendar featured a photo call with the Bale Push Man in The Bowgie car park before moving into cheque presentations.

Reflecting on Success

The Chairman of the Bale Push Committee opened the evening, summarising the success of the September event. Nigel highlighted the impressive turnout, stating, “The event saw 132 teams taking part and scores of spectators enjoying the late summer’s evening bale rolling spectacular and the entertainment from local 1940’s crooner Andy Marshall.”

Community Support Drives Donations

Thanks to sponsorship from Sharps Brewery, The Bowgie, The Garage Company Ltd, Start and Co, David Ball Agencies, Legacy Properties, St Agnes Bakery, Pilgrims UK, and matched funding from Visa, the committee was able to donate an impressive £20,000 to local charities and groups. Nigel noted that since the event’s inception in 2000, over £170,000 has been raised and distributed to the community.

Major Beneficiaries

This year, the event presented cheques of £7,000 each to Penhaligon’s Friends and Cornwall Blood Bikes, with Visa’s matched funding playing a pivotal role. Special thanks were extended to John Trainer for his ongoing support.

Supporting Local Organisations

Additional donations were made to a wide range of local groups, including:

  • The Heart of Headland
  • Newquay Hockey Club
  • Crantock Village Hall
  • Crantock Does Poppies
  • Crantock Baby and Toddler Group
  • Crantock Christmas Lights

  • Crantock Rowing Club
  • Crantock SLSC
  • Cubert School PTFA
  • Holywell SLSC
  • Cubert and Holywell Carnival Committee
  • Crantock Parish Magazine

Appreciation and Future Plans

The committee expressed gratitude to all sponsors, advertisers, and volunteers whose support and hard work made the event possible. They also extended thanks to the residents of Crantock village for their continued patience.

Sally, Andy, and Tish from The Bowgie were recognised for hosting the evening and providing a well-received buffet. The Bale Push Committee looks forward to welcoming everyone back for the next event, set for Friday, 12th September 2025.
