Bude Police have issued an urgent community alert following a series of reported suspicious activities in the Bude area during the night of January 18-19, 2024. Residents have reported encounters with two individuals, both described as wearing dark clothing, who were seen trying door handles of vehicles and houses in the town and extending into the Flexbury area.

The police have received three separate reports from unrelated individuals, raising concerns about potential opportunistic thefts. In response to these incidents, Bude Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures. They advise residents to ensure that their front doors and vehicles are securely locked at night to deter any potential thieves.

In an effort to address the situation, Bude Police have announced increased patrols in the affected areas. They are also calling on the community to report any suspicious behaviour or individuals prowling in the area immediately via the emergency number, 999.

The police emphasise that such incidents are emergencies and justify the use of the 999 system, especially when offenders are believed to be on the scene.

PC Nina, the officer handling the investigation, is also requesting the public’s assistance in gathering evidence. Residents who have doorbell cameras, like Ring, or dashcam footage that could be relevant to the investigation are asked to submit it to the Public Enquiry Office. They are requested to mark the footage for PC 6439 Nina and include their contact details.

Bude Police are appreciative of the community’s help in identifying these individuals, emphasising that public cooperation is critical in such cases. The recent events have heightened the sense of urgency in the community to collaborate with law enforcement in ensuring public safety and apprehending potential offenders.

Residents are reminded to be alert and to report any unusual activities in their neighbourhoods as the police continue to investigate these incidents. The community’s proactive engagement is vital in deterring criminal activities and maintaining the safety and security of the area.

PC Nina thanks the public in advance for their cooperation and vigilance in these efforts to keep the community safe.
