Bodmin Police Station hosts Act of Remembrance to remember lives lost in service

Cornwall Police paid their respects in a solemn Remembrance Day service at Cornwall Police Headquarters in Bodmin today, 11th November. The event brought together officers, staff, and retired members to honour those who sacrificed their lives in service.

Prayers and Two-Minute Silence

The Act of Remembrance was opened by Force Chaplain Reverend Sheila Bawden with a prayer, setting a respectful tone for the occasion. Attendees then observed a two-minute silence at 11am, commemorating fallen police officers and other servicemen and women.

Honouring Those Who Served

Inspector Adam Stonehill of the Bodmin Sector read the names of police officers who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars. The reading highlighted Cornwall Police’s respect for the brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Laying of Wreaths

Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Leaper and Spencer Pritchard from the National Association of Retired Police Officers placed wreaths at the station’s war memorial. Spencer, also honouring those fallen, read the well-known poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, Nikki Leaper expressed the importance of remembrance for those who served and those who continue to show bravery. She stated: “Like many people across the UK, today we came together to show our respect and gratitude for those who have fallen in service – they will never be forgotten.”
