Devon & Cornwall Police Release December Road Safety Figures
The Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team has released its monthly summary showing the scale of road safety activity carried out during December.
The figures highlight a wide range of enforcement, education and preventative work aimed at keeping people safe on and around the region’s roads.
Enforcement and Vehicle Seizures
During December, officers seized 117 uninsured or unlicensed vehicles. Alongside this, 288 officer issued tickets were recorded, reflecting routine enforcement across Devon and Cornwall.
A total of 386 hours of speed detection were carried out over the month, supporting efforts to address speeding and unsafe driving behaviour.
Mobile Phone and Seatbelt Offences
The Road Safety Team recorded 19 mobile phone offences, with a further 8 seatbelt and mobile phone offences also dealt with during December.
These offences remain a key focus due to the risk they pose to drivers, passengers and other road users.
Education and Driver Awareness
Education continued to play a major role, with 10,336 NDORS educational courses delivered. These courses are designed to encourage safer driving choices and improve awareness on the roads.
In addition, 64 CSW sessions were carried out, supporting community speed watch activity across the force area.
Public Reports and Medical Referrals
Members of the public submitted 366 Operation Snap reports, allowing police to review dashcam and mobile phone footage of driving incidents.
The team also made 187 medical referrals to the DVLA, where concerns were identified about a driver’s medical fitness to drive.
Motorcycle Safety Training
Motorcycle safety was also addressed, with one Bike Safe course delivered during the month. This session trained seven participants, focusing on skills and awareness for riders.
The December figures provide a snapshot of how road safety work continued throughout the winter period, combining enforcement, education and community involvement.
