Police Increase Summer Patrols Across Cornwall and Isles of Scilly

Officers to patrol coastlines, towns and busy roads across the summer surge

With millions of visitors descending on Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly this summer, police have confirmed an increased presence across the region to keep holidaymakers and communities safe.

Foot patrols and vehicle checks are being carried out in coastal areas, inland parks and town centres. Officers are also taking to the roads in both marked and unmarked vehicles during what’s expected to be the busiest period of the year.

Chief Superintendent Ben Deer, who oversees policing in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said:
“Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are fantastic and safe places to visit; we look forward to welcoming visitors and families across the next few months.”

Crackdown on Antisocial Behaviour and Crime

The summer months often bring a rise in antisocial behaviour, road safety issues and alcohol-related crime. Police say they are ready to respond.

“With the huge influx of visitors and more people spending time outside, it’s usual for us to receive reports in July and August around antisocial behaviour (ASB), road safety and crimes where alcohol is involved,” said Ben.

“We know how important it is for the public to see a uniform out on the beat. That’s why we’ve made it a priority for our police teams across the county to be out in the community.”

Ben also reminded visitors to enjoy Cornwall responsibly:
“As a reminder to those holidaying, make sure to enjoy all that Cornwall has to offer safely and respectfully. And remember, if you’re in an emergency situation or need to report something, we’re here to help and listen.”

Additional Support in Six Key Towns

To support the summer demand, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) is funding an extra 720 hours of foot patrols for Street Marshals in Camborne, Penzance, Truro, Bodmin, Newquay and St Austell throughout August. That’s alongside over 500 hours of funded police patrols across the region.

Targeting Drug Crime and Community Offences

The police have also confirmed that efforts to tackle drug supply and crime affecting local communities will continue. This includes plain clothes patrols, warrants, seizures and targeted operations.

To report illegal activity, visit the Devon & Cornwall Police website or call 101. In an emergency, always call 999.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111 or visiting the Crimestoppers website.
