Stalker Jailed for Terrorising Former Partner in Cornwall

A man who relentlessly harassed his former partner has been jailed for two years after continuing to terrorise her despite a restraining order.

Sentenced at Truro Crown Court

Jonathon Champion, 52, formerly of the Callington area, appeared at Truro Crown Court on Friday 8th August 2025. He pleaded guilty to harassment causing alarm and distress, and to breaching a restraining order.

The court heard that Jonathon repeatedly targeted the victim after their relationship ended, despite already being convicted in 2024 for similar offending against the same woman. A restraining order had been put in place, banning him from contacting her directly or indirectly and from attending her address.

Social Media Abuse and Tracking

In February this year, Jonathon contacted the victim on Facebook and posted derogatory statuses about her, including thinly veiled threats referencing karma.

Following his release from custody for the previous conviction, he asked others to monitor the victim and report her whereabouts. He also contacted the victim's daughter and family members to discuss her, showing what the court was told was his obsession and attempts to isolate her.

Police revealed that voice notes sent by Jonathon were derogatory and grossly offensive. His probation worker also reported that he remained preoccupied with the victim.

Evidence from his phone showed communications with people asking for photos and updates of her. WhatsApp messages also revealed his attempts to track her, alongside constant monitoring of her social media.

Arrest and No Comment Interview

Due to growing concerns about his behaviour and the threat he posed, Jonathon was arrested on 7th March. When questioned, he offered no comment in interview.

Police Statement

Officer in the case, DC Isla Ferguson, said:

"Despite a previous sentence for offences against the same victim, Jonathon Champion continued to target her and make her life a misery.

"A court order did little to deter him as he continued to monitor the victim and obsess over her. This offending must have been absolutely terrifying for the victim.

"Champion also attempted to involve other people in a bid to make her more vulnerable and escalate his predatory behaviour.

"I would like to commend her bravery and we hope this sentence means she is now able to move on with her life.

"As a force we remain committed to prioritising offending against women and girls."
