Truro Police Crack Down on Speeding: A Vision Zero Initiative

Published On: 14 January 2024Last Updated: 14 January 2024By

In a concerted effort to enhance road safety, PC Duncan (Truro Patrol), joined forces with the local Professional Development Unit (comprising student officers) on Wednesday, January 10th, to address the pressing issue of speeding in the Truro area.

The operation, which is part of the broader Vision Zero initiative aimed at eliminating serious injuries on the roads, saw the team focusing on several key locations. These areas, including Shortlanesend, Falmouth Road, and Blackwater, have been identified by local communities as hotspots for speeding and have consequently become the target of rigorous policing.

During the day, the officers were actively engaged in monitoring traffic and enforcing speed limits. Their efforts resulted in the issuance of numerous tickets to motorists found exceeding the speed limits. In addition to punitive measures, the officers also took the opportunity to educate drivers, offering words of advice on the importance of adhering to speed regulations for their safety and that of others.

The initiative reflects the police’s commitment to proactive community engagement and responsiveness to local concerns. By targeting areas flagged by residents, the police are not only enforcing the law but also fostering a sense of community involvement in road safety efforts.

Residents are advised that these patrols are not a one-off event but part of an ongoing campaign. Truro Police have announced that similar operations will continue throughout the year at different locations. The message to motorists is clear: check your speed and stay within legal limits. The aim is not just to penalise but to prevent accidents and ensure that the roads are safe for everyone.

This initiative is a crucial step towards achieving the goals of Vision Zero, a strategy that seeks to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. Truro Police are determined to play their part in realising this vision and urge the community to join them in making the roads safer for everyone.
