Layby Fly-Tip Witnessed by Council Worker

A man from the Redruth area has been fined £1,000 for fly-tipping parts of a recently purchased bus in a layby in West Cornwall.

The incident happened in March and was witnessed by a Cornwall Council employee. The man had removed several parts from the converted bus, including a fridge, seats and cushions, and left them in the layby.

Cornwall Council’s Community Protection Team carried out the investigation, with support from the police, and identified the man responsible. He was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £1,000, which has now been paid in full.

Caught on Camera in a Children’s Play Park

In a separate case, a woman in Newquay was caught on CCTV dumping garden waste in a children’s play area earlier this year.

The footage, from January, showed her checking whether anyone was watching before making several trips from her property to the play park with garden waste. She was issued with a £500 Fixed Penalty Notice, which has also been paid.

Council Urges Residents to Respect Cornwall’s Environment

Councillor Thalia Marrington, cabinet member with responsibility for Community Safety and Public Health at Cornwall Council, said:

“Cornwall is such a beautiful part of the world and we must all play our part in keeping it that way. There is no excuse for fly-tipping.
Where we do have evidence of fly-tipping or littering, we will do our best to track down those responsible.”

Both individuals avoided court proceedings by paying their penalties in full.
