National Maritime Museum Cornwall Announces Easter Holiday Program
The National Maritime Museum Cornwall is gearing up for an action-packed Easter holiday, promising a slew of activities designed to entertain and educate visitors of all ages.
The museum, known for its comprehensive exploration of maritime history and culture, has unveiled a special programme that runs from Saturday, 30 March to Sunday, 14 April.
At the heart of the Easter celebration is “The Cornish Caretakers and the Chest of Cornishness,” a family-friendly show that promises to be both hilarious and informative. Starring Ed Rowe, Cornwall’s very own Kernow King, Jenny Beare, and Dan Richards of Near-ta Theatre’s Christmas Time, the show will introduce audiences to six pioneering Cornish men and women whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the world. Characters range from the first boxer ever to win World Championships in three weight divisions, to a daredevil who braved Niagara Falls in a beer barrel, and even a convict who made a daring escape from Australia in a rowing boat. The show runs three times daily at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm, bringing history to life in an engaging manner for children and their families.
Complementing the live show, the museum is hosting Cornwall-themed Make & Take workshops, where participants can craft their very own Cornish chough companions. These special workshops, running from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm, are designed to not only foster creativity but also educate attendees about the significance of the Cornish chough, a bird emblematic of Cornwall’s heritage.
Adding an exploratory element to the holiday programme, visitors are invited to embark on the Trail of Cornish Heroes. This museum trail provides a map for a hunt across the county, spotlighting Cornish heroes from history. Participants will learn about these figures’ origins and achievements, with the added challenge of finding their faces hidden throughout the museum.
Beyond the Easter festivities, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall continues to offer a wealth of experiences across its 15 galleries spread over five floors. Highlights include boarding boats, ascending the 100-foot Lookout Tower, diving into the Tidal Zone, navigating the Waterfront Boat Pool, and the all-new Skull Island Play Zone. Additionally, the museum’s Cornwall galleries delve deep into the region’s maritime past, making it a comprehensive destination for understanding Cornwall’s unique maritime heritage.
Admission to all Easter activities is free with the museum’s annual admission fee, allowing visitors to pay once and enjoy unlimited access for a year. This inclusive approach ensures that families can enjoy a rich array of experiences without additional costs, reinforcing the museum’s commitment to accessibility and education.
