Dog Owners Beware! Cornwall’s Beach Restrictions in Full Swing
Dog owners planning a trip to the seaside are urged to check the latest rules as new restrictions come into effect on several Cornish beaches.
From now until the end of September, specific beaches will have limitations on dog access during peak hours.
Beaches with Restrictions
From 10am to 6pm, dogs are not permitted on the following beaches:
- Crackington Haven, Bude
- Crooklets, Bude
- Great Western, Newquay
- Gyllyngvase Beach, Falmouth
- Polzeath
- Porth
- Porthmeor, St Ives
- Porthminster, St Ives
- Porthtowan
- Portreath
- Sennen Cove
- Trevone, Padstow
- Widemouth, Bude
However, at Summerleaze, Bude, dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead between 10am and 6pm.
Year-Round Bans in Wildlife Areas
There are also three protected wildlife areas where dogs are banned all year round, 24 hours a day:
- Carnsew Pool
- Copperhouse Pool
- Hayle Estuary
Council’s Appeal to Dog Owners
Martyn Alvey, portfolio holder for Climate Change and Environment at Cornwall Council, emphasised the importance of adhering to these rules. Martyn stated, “I ask that dog owners respect the restrictions that are in place and be considerate to other beach users.”
He further urged dog owners to ensure their pets are controlled and to clean up after them, adding, “We have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and we must all play our part in keeping them clean and tidy.”
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Dog owners should be aware that it is an offence to take dogs on restricted beaches during prohibited times or to allow them to foul without cleaning up. Both actions could result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100.

Stay informed and ensure your beach trip is enjoyable and compliant with local regulations.
