January is not just about New Year resolutions. It is also Walk Your Dog Month, and Cardinham Woods is being highlighted as a place for dog owners to get outside and make the most of the winter months.

With colder weather and shorter days, it can be tempting to stay indoors. The focus of Walk Your Dog Month is on encouraging regular walks that support both physical and mental wellbeing for dogs and their owners.

Beating the January Blues

Spending time outdoors is being promoted as a simple way to enjoy natural light and fresh air during a time of year that many people find challenging. Even short walks are encouraged as a way to clear the mind and lift mood, with dogs providing the perfect motivation to get outside.

Space for the Whole Family

Cardinham Woods offers a range of walking options, from hilly routes to gentler strolls. There are also play areas and picnic spots, making it suitable for families. On-site mobility hire is available, allowing more people to explore the woodland.

A Dog-Friendly Woodland All Year Round

Dogs are welcome at Cardinham Woods throughout the year, with no seasonal restrictions. The woodland environment offers plenty of sights, sounds and scents to explore. Owners are asked to keep dogs close and within sight at all times. A dog wash is available on site to help keep cars and homes clean after muddy walks.

From Walking to Running

For those looking to increase their activity, running routes are also available. These are designed to help people and their dogs build fitness together while enjoying the scenery.

Dog owners looking for a new way to start the year are being encouraged by Forestry England to celebrate Walk Your Dog Month by heading to Cardinham Woods. More information can be found on the Forestry England website.
