Profits from Finn’s Fence to Support German Shepherd Rescue in Cornwall
Legacy of Police Dog Finn to support German Shepherds in need at Camelot Kennels
From this Sunday, 27th July 2025, a new product called Finn’s Fence will go on sale through Wire Fence, with all profits being donated to German Shepherd Rescue Elite (GSRE).
GSRE is based at Camelot Kennels in Cornwall and run by Finn’s former handler, Dave Wardell. The timing marks the second anniversary of Police Dog Finn’s passing.
A Tribute to a Police Hero
The launch of Finn’s Fence coincides with the unveiling of a new memorial statue dedicated to Finn, hosted by the Thin Blue Paw Foundation.
Finn became a household name in 2016 after he was seriously injured while protecting Dave during a police pursuit. At the time, the law didn’t offer full protection for service animals, and the attacker was only charged with criminal damage.
Dave led a national campaign, supported by the public, media and even an appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, which successfully brought about legal change. Finn’s Law was granted Royal Assent on 8th April 2019, strengthening protection for service animals across the UK.
Finn passed away on 27th July 2023, aged 14.
Profits to Help Dogs in Cornwall
Finn’s Fence is available for purchase for the next year, with all profits supporting the ongoing work of GSRE. Dave now runs Camelot Kennels in Cornwall, helping to rescue and rehome German Shepherds.
“Having secure paddocks and compounds here at the kennels are a very important part of these dogs’ welfare and in some cases rehabilitation into getting those homes,” said Dave.
“For the team at Wire Fence to have changed the name of their product to honour Finn is a very touching thing for the team to have done. I hope it helps to raise some much needed funds for the rescue too so that we can continue our work here. It’s a fantastic product and I’d recommend it to anyone looking at fencing,” he added.
Wire Fence has previously supported GSRE by providing materials to build fencing at the kennels.
Remembering Finn
“I’m reminded of just how loved Finn was and still is by his family and loyal friends and followers,” said Dave. “I’m also reminded of the amazing adventures we had together in our work in the police and in his retirement.”
The Wire Fence team say they were moved by Finn’s story and wanted to support the cause in his memory.
“That’s how the idea for Finn’s Fence came about – a small gesture to honour a truly incredible dog and support the work still being done in his name,” said Orsi, Content Creator at Wire Fence.
