Six Dogs Found on Bodmin Moor: Do You Recognise Them?

Published On: 17 October 2024Last Updated: 17 October 2024By

Cornwall Council is appealing for information after six dogs were discovered on Bodmin Moor earlier this week. The dogs, believed to be Labrador and Springer-types, were found in two different locations on Monday, October 14th.

Two Locations, Same Story

Three dogs were discovered near St Neot, and the other three were found near Altarnun. Authorities believe the dogs may have the same owner, but none of them were carrying up-to-date microchips or identification tags, making it difficult to trace their origins.

In Care and Awaiting Claims

Currently, the dogs are being looked after in licensed kennels. They will be kept there for the statutory seven-day period to allow time for their owner to come forward. If the dogs are not claimed within that time, they will be rehomed through recognised animal rehoming organisations.

Reminder to Pet Owners

Cornwall Council’s portfolio holder for Public Protection, Martyn Alvey, expressed his concern over the situation. Martyn reminded dog owners of the importance of microchipping pets and ensuring their details remain current. He also noted that all dogs should wear identification tags.

Martyn said that abandoning pets in such circumstances is an offence under the Animal Welfare Act, and urged people with information to come forward.
