Could Your Wildflower Photo Win £1,500? Eden Project Launches UK-Wide Competition
This September, the Eden Project’s National Wildflower Centre (NWC) marks its 25th anniversary with the launch of a new photography competition offering cash prizes of up to £1,500.
The Wildflower Photographer of the Year competition is open to all UK residents and is calling on budding and professional photographers to capture the beauty of Britain and Ireland’s wildflowers. Entries must be submitted by 30th September 2025.
Celebrating 25 Years of Wildflowers
The NWC opened in Liverpool in 2000 as a National Lottery Millennium Commission project, created in response to the loss of 97 per cent of UK wildflower habitats since WWII. It made its home at the Eden Project in Cornwall in 2017.
Born from the vision of Landlife, a Liverpool-based charity, the centre has been behind major biodiversity projects across the UK, working with communities, councils, businesses and NGOs.
From vast cornfield meadows in Kirkby, Liverpool, to the creation of 18 hectares of wildflower, woodland and heathland along the St Austell Link Road in Cornwall, the NWC has helped transform urban and underused spaces into vital landscapes for pollinators and local communities.
Dan James, director of development at the Eden Project, said:
“The work of the NWC has never been more important than it is now. The Wildflower Photographer of the Year encourages everyone to look more closely at the beauty and fragility of wild plants. It is a visual tribute to our 25-year mission of reconnecting people with nature.”
How to Enter
The competition is being run in partnership with Canary Wharf Group, home to Eden Dock – an urban space designed to support biodiversity in partnership with the Eden Project.
It features three categories:
-
Youth – £500 prize
-
Amateur – £1,000 prize
-
Professional – £1,500 prize
Sophie Goddard, director of ESG at Canary Wharf Group, said:
“At Canary Wharf we have created spaces to connect people with nature throughout our neighbourhood. We see the work of the NWC as vital and are proud to support The Wildflower Photographer of the Year competition, providing a great opportunity to engage people with our natural world.”
Linked to Major Exhibition
The launch coincides with the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, a showcase of 100 of the world’s best natural world images from the Natural History Museum, which will be on display at the Eden Project until 28th September 2025.
