The Eden Project has announced Peter Jones as its new Director of Horticulture, as the attraction gears up for its 25th anniversary celebrations in 2026.

A Bold Vision for Eden’s Future

Peter will lead the strategic vision for horticulture at the Eden Project, ensuring it becomes the star attraction. His leadership will see him managing a 50-strong team responsible for maintaining the renowned plant collections in the Rainforest and Mediterranean Biomes, as well as more than eight hectares of outdoor gardens and the wider 72-hectare estate.

His role will also encompass oversight of the Eden Project’s Growing Point, a pioneering plant nursery heated by deep geothermal energy.

A National Stage for Horticulture

In addition to his work in Cornwall, Peter will direct horticultural operations for the Eden Projects in Morecambe, Lancashire, and Dundee, Scotland. These new developments aim to showcase plant collections that reflect their local environments and cultural heritage.

From RHS to Eden: A 19-Year Legacy

Peter joins the Eden Project after nearly two decades at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), where he most recently served as Garden Manager for the Hardy Ornamental department at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey. Reflecting on his new role, Peter said:

“I’m truly overjoyed to be joining the Eden Project team. As someone who is passionate about plants and the role they play in enriching all our lives, I feel a real affinity with the work the Eden Project is doing to connect people with nature, a mission that has never been more important.”

During his time at Wisley, Peter contributed to major projects such as the reimagining of the Oudolf Landscape and the creation of Clear Lake, a rainwater capture lake.

A Warm Welcome from Eden

Andy Jasper, Chief Executive Officer of the Eden Project, shared his enthusiasm for Peter’s arrival:

“We are delighted to be welcoming Peter to the Eden Project team. He brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm and will be instrumental in taking our horticulture to the next level.”

A Legacy of Growing Talent

Tim Upson, RHS Director of Gardens and Horticulture, praised Peter’s achievements:

“This is a remarkable achievement for Peter and reflects his exceptional leadership, horticultural expertise, and the significant impact he has made during his time at Wisley.”

Peter’s passion for horticulture extends to his commitment to tackling the climate crisis, particularly through his work with hardy trees. His leadership is set to play a pivotal role as the Eden Project enters a new era.
