Eden Project Revamps Café with a Blend of Family Fun and Local Cuisine for February Half Term
The Eden Project, renowned for its unique blend of nature and education, is set to reopen its newly revamped Core Play Café just in time for the February half-term. This exciting development promises to deliver a fresh experience for families, combining delicious, locally-sourced food with engaging activities for all ages.
Located in the Core building, home to the Invisible Worlds exhibition and gallery space, the Core Play Café positions itself near Nature’s Playground, Eden’s natural play area. This strategic location makes it an ideal spot for families to enjoy a fun-filled break.
The café’s revamp focuses on offering sustainable and affordable dining options. The menu is specially designed to cater to families, featuring kid-friendly choices like jacket potatoes, toasties, organic pasta, and a fresh salad bar. In a move to promote healthy eating, every child’s meal will include a free piece of fruit.
Eden Project’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its food sourcing strategy. Ingredients for the café’s dishes are locally sourced, with salads incorporating produce grown at Eden’s new plant nursery complex, Growing Point. This facility enables the chef team to use freshly harvested ingredients, emphasising Eden’s philosophy of working in food metres rather than food miles.
The Core Play Café isn’t just about food; it’s about creating a communal, interactive experience. Families dining at the café can choose from a variety of board games, card sets, and activity sheets to enjoy together. Additionally, children have the opportunity to contribute to the café’s ambience by designing their own dream playground artwork, which will be displayed on a wall linking the restaurant to the Core building’s gallery space.
Currently, the Core Gallery is hosting the Acts of Gathering exhibition, which explores the nature of food culture in a changing world. This exhibition, open until April 14, aligns well with the café’s theme and ethos.
Mike Greer, Eden’s Head Chef, shared his enthusiasm for the new restaurant. He highlighted the synergy between the café’s location near Nature’s Playground and its focus on fun, interactive family dining. Greer also noted the chef team’s involvement in Growing Point, underlining their effort to offer the freshest and most sustainable produce.
The reopening of the Core Play Café is part of a broader range of activities planned for the February half term at Eden, running from February 10-18. The program includes explosive science experiments, technology showcases, and free entry for kids under 16. Visitors can also enjoy the last ice skating sessions of the season.
